Around the world, corporations have taken over the food supply. Factory farms, genetic engineering, pollution, habitat destruction… the list goes on and on. Fortunately there’s an alternative — growing local. Whether through backyard gardens or the return of the small family farm, communities across the planet are discovering that small scale farming is the solution to a LOT of problems. This site aims to be a resource to aid in the transition back to more natural food systems. We hope you’ll join us!
The Genetically Engineered Cornspiracy Continues
I know, I know, that title is a bit… well, corny. But it was irresistible.
More news this week about another so-called “healthy” brand that actually uses genetically modified crops. This time from Kraft Foods under their Boca Burgers brand. From the OCA:
Companies like Kraft work hand-in-hand with Monsanto to lace common foods with GM (Genetically Modified) ingredients, with absolutely no labeling nor safety-testing required, and in many cases market these products as “natural.” Kraft, North America’s largest food company, has perfected the art of turning genetically engineered crops and animals raised in factory farms on GMO feed and injected with Monsanto’s (now Elanco’s) rBGH into “food.”
Further proof that the only way to liberate the food supply is to only buy local. Of course, checking the label to see who REALLY owns these “wolf brands” in sheep’s clothing helps. Read more and Take Action.
More Rants About Monsanto
If you’ve followed any of the recent rants on this site about Monsanto threatening to destroy the crop known as Alfalfa, then here’s the backstory on why their genetically engineered crops are such a scourge on humanity. Listen to this warning from Dr. Don Huber, a plant pathologist and retired Purdue University professor:
“For the past 40 years, I have been a scientist in the professional and military agencies that evaluate and prepare for natural and manmade biological threats, including germ warfare and disease outbreaks. Based on this experience, I believe the threat we are facing from this pathogen is unique and of a high risk status. In layman’s terms, it should be treated as an emergency.”
He’s referring to a pathogen found in high concentrations of Monsanto’s Roundup Ready corn and soy. Researchers believe this pathogen could be causing infertility in livestock and diseases in crops that could threaten the entire domestic food supply.

Not only are they evil, but…
…you’re also completely legally responsible for any mistakes made during the course of your contact with evil. What is the source of this extravagant hyperbole*? Yes, once again, the source of my ire is Monsanto, the corporation that either has a secret plan to destroy the world’s food supply or who’s corporate structure has created the ultimate doomsday machine — a massive contraption consisting of VPs, HR, PR and PS (pseudo science) departments so fully insulated from any normal sense of responsibility that as whole is able to commit the most heinous of acts. Just scroll through this blog to find examples. The video below explains how the most evil of all evil departments inside the beast (the legal dept of course) has crafted a plan that makes any and all damages incurred as a result of using their atrocious products the responsibility of the farmer. Lord help us all.
*Intentionally redundant.
Insanity 101
Fact – genetically engineered crops CANNOT be maintained within protective zones. They leech out into the surrounding environment, contaminating non-GE crops and causing mutant strains never seen in nature before. Simply put, GE crops are a scourge upon humanity.
And unfortunately, the battle against GE crops saw a significant loss this week:
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved plantings of three genetically engineered (GE) crops in as many weeks, including Monsanto Co.’s Roundup Ready sugar beets and alfalfa that are engineered to tolerate Roundup Ready weed-killing herbicide.
Enjoy your alfalfa and sugar beets while you can, because it won’t be too long before you’ll have to visit another country to enjoy GMO-free versions of those plants.
I supposed it eventually had to happen
The inherent mission statement of all corporations is to increase profits at all costs. The bottom line is… the bottom line and everything else is subservient to that. The same is true whether you’re a giant chemical company or a giant “natural” foods company. Proof of this came in a statement from Whole Foods, a company that has consistently turned its back on its founding principals, undoubtedly for sake of catering to shareholders:
“The policy set for GE alfalfa will most likely guide policies for other GE crops as well. True coexistence is a must.” - Whole Foods Market, Jan. 21, 2011
In the wake of a 12-year battle to keep Monsanto’s Genetically Engineered (GE) crops from contaminating the nation’s 25,000 organic farms and ranches, America’s organic consumers and producers are facing betrayal. A self-appointed cabal of the Organic Elite, spearheaded by Whole Foods Market, Organic Valley, and Stonyfield Farm, has decided it’s time to surrender to Monsanto. Top executives from these companies have publicly admitted that they no longer oppose the mass commercialization of GE crops, such as Monsanto’s controversial Roundup Ready alfalfa, and are prepared to sit down and cut a deal for “coexistence” with Monsanto and USDA biotech cheerleader Tom Vilsack.
Genetically engineered crops are a scourge upon this planet. They are impossible to contain, leaping from farm to farm like a virus in the plant kingdom. If plants could scream they would sound like humans being chased by zombies, succumbing to a plaque that could eventually transform all food sources on this planet. Heaven help us.

New book about animal factory farming
This factory farm news update comes from the amazing folks at Organic Consumers:
In the United States and other parts of the world, livestock production is becoming increasingly dominated by concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). In a CAFO, animals are crammed by the thousands or tens of thousands, often unable to breathe fresh air, see the light of day, walk outside, peck at a plants or insects, scratch the earth, or eat a blade of grass.
While people moved into the cities looking for better jobs, corporations quietly moved in and took over, superimposing the Henry Ford model of production onto the practice of farming. The consequences have been disastrous.
I’ve long held a vision of the future that will see the return of the family farm, with a bit of high-technology thrown in. Hi-tech in form of digital communications and evolved perspectives on growing food like permaculture, but none of the hi-tech madness that corporations are trying to impose on the world — GMO crops, pesticides, factory farms, etc. But until we get there, we must stay vigilant about what’s happening around the world.
Monsanto delivers smallpox-coated blankets to poor Haitians
That might as well have been the title of the article. For that’s assuredly what Monsanto’s “gift” of genetically-modified corn to Haiti really is — the beginning of the end for the indigenous corn crop. Truthout’s Ryan Sawyer reports:
Nearly 60,000 seed sacks of hybrid corn seeds and other vegetable seeds were donated to post-earthquake Haiti by Monsanto. In observance of World Environment Day, June 4, 2010, roughly 10,000 rural Haitian farmers gathered in Papaye to march seven kilometers to Hinche in celebration of this gift. Upon arrival, these rewarded farmers took their collective Easter baskets of more than 400 tons of vegetable seeds and burned them all. “Long live the native maize seed!” they chanted in unison.
Genetically-engineered crops are evil for so many reasons I can’t even begin to count. My fingers practically go numb in trying to express this utter affront to all that is good and holy in the world. In a pure, unadulterated, evolved-over-millions-of-years nutshell, genetically modified crops destroy indigenous species, can never be contained within the farms they are grown (spreading rapidly to poison non-GMO farms) and in many countries (like the USA) end up in the food supply with absolutely no disclosure.
That’s about as much as I can get out right now without throwing up, it’s such an outrage. Read the rest of the article.
